Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS

Overview

Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) built on a hardened base with an LVM root layout. The operating system is the product: no application is layered on top. Because the root filesystem lives on a logical volume you can extend it onto a larger disk while the system is running, add volumes for data or logs, and reshape storage with standard LVM tooling instead of being locked to the shape the image shipped with.

Why this image

Brought to a fully-patched state at capture and hardened before it ships. There is no default login: SSH is by the key you supply at launch, password authentication is off and root is locked. Unattended security updates are armed, machine identity and SSH host keys regenerate uniquely on every instance, and the image is backed by 24/7 support.
